Diane was diagnosed with cancer in her neck in mid-2010. A blur of surgery and radiation followed, with her emotions and fears scrambling to catch up. She finally got the “all clear” from doctors and started to believe that her life would go on. And then the snoring started.
Diane had never snored and yet now Steve was being regularly woken through the night by Diane’s loud snoring. Initially they thought that this was a small price to pay for Diane’s health, but it soon created issues. Steve would spend some nights in the spare room, and it seemed to be getting worse.
After discussing the issue with her doctors, Diane went for a sleep study. The surgery that had removed her tumours had changed the shape of her neck and had interfered with some of the muscles that form the upper airway. Diane now had sleep apnea.
The week after her diagnosis, Diane saw an article about Acurest in the newspaper. Having heard the many horror stories from friends about poor outcomes with standard masks, Diane was intrigued by the thought of having a mask made to fit properly. 
As she puts it, “This therapy is for life. My sleep apnea is not going to get better so I need to find something that works without any hassle. Life is too precious not to have the sleep I need to enjoy it!”
So, Diane was moulded and we made her a mask. That was before her titration study. When the sleep lab called with the results, Diane was overjoyed to hear that her mask performed flawlessly. She started on therapy right away and has not looked back since.
Her first email to us after therapy started was amazing:
“Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I woke up this morning after the best night’s sleep I can remember with my new mask doing its job. The best part was that Steve was right beside me. I feel high on life today, with amazing colours in the sky. I am sure my vision is improved. Could this be the extra oxygen in my system? I just want you to know how very pleased I am with my mask. Thanks.”
It is obviously great to get feedback like this. Diane doesn’t know what other masks are like, so she was able to settle into therapy and start getting the benefits without the hassle faced by many.
It is a shame that not every new CPAP user has this experience.
 
PS        A few months later, we again checked in with Diane. She was still going well with therapy and life was good, with one small problem: Steve’s snoring has been waking her during the night! Good luck with your sleep study Steve…

The TrueFIT™Custom Mask is manufactured by Acurest® in Brisbane, Australia. Our custom CPAP masks have been available exclusively in Australia since 2001.
 

Now we are proud to offer our masks to CPAP users in the USA.

 
The TrueFIT™ Custom Mask is made from an impression, or mold, which is taken of the central features of your face. It is around this impression that we construct each individual mask.
 
In the USA, we use the molding services of Medical Art Prosthetics (MAP)® for the impression. Once taken, the mold is sent to our manufacturing facility in Brisbane where your mask will take two to three weeks to complete. Allowing for trans-shipment, your mask should be ready for you about 5-6 weeks after your mold is taken.
 
Medical Art Prosthetics® will provide all the paperwork necessary for you to claim back the cost of the mask from your medical insurance company.
